Our Story
The most rewarding things in life aren’t the things you find; they’re the things that find you.
Friends for over 30 years, Taylor Hill and Carter Harkins have been and done many things, both separately and together, both in business and personally. But the financial crisis of the late 2000’s seemed to present the perfect opportunity to try something new.
“We’d always wanted to build a company that WE would actually want to work for,” says Taylor. “And what better time to do that than when the bottom falls out of the economy!” Kidding. Sort of…
As a newly-launched creative services company, Taylor and Carter worked hard to serve a few large clients, and in between the bigger jobs, they would often take on smaller local businesses as clients.
“This is when the magic really happened,” says Carter. “We were killing ourselves for big corporations, starting to wonder if we were even making a difference, and along comes these mom-and-pop service businesses, you know, chimney sweeps, plumbers, roofers, electricians, and the like. And it was like we found our true calling in this business. The work we were doing for them was really making a difference, and they were letting us know it.”
Not being complete idiots, Taylor and Carter pivoted. Instead of being a creative services company to the Fortune 500, they launched Spark Marketer, with the single goal of helping smaller home service businesses grow through turnkey online marketing services.
“We’ve been able to build a serious team of experts, and everyone feels connected to the purpose and mission of our company and brands,” Taylor says. “We’re really proud of being the kind of place we always wanted to go to work for.”
Over the past decade, HarkinsHill LLC has grown, launched additional brands, and clarified even further the kind of difference they want to make for their clients.
“It’s the most rewarding thing we’ve ever done,” Carter says. “The work, the people, the results. It’s hard to imagine what life would be like if this opportunity hadn’t found us at the exact right time. We are incredibly grateful.”
